Dr. Zvi Sadan's webpage is dedicated to issues relating to Jesus, Judaism, New Testament and Israel. Sadan's presupposition is that the conflict between Jesus and Israel is primarily polemical and cultural rather than theological. His persuasion has been that when viewed without prejudice, Jesus is indeed the bearer of good news to Israel. His thought-provoking articles are the result of years of studying Christian, Jewish and Messianic Jewish views of Jesus.

  • And the Innocent Shall Forgive the Blameless: A Critique of the Reconciliation Movement

    Theology

The many forums for Jewish-Christian dialogue which began to spring up around the world after the Holocaust sought to find ways in which Judaism and Christianity could coexist without the latter attempting to convert the former. These dialogues achieved much in building mutual respect between the two religions and, as such, are extremely valuable. They have, however...

  • Can Any Good Thing Come Out of Crown Heights?

    Theology

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shneerson of Lubavitch is not unique in his role as a would be messiah. He is but the latest of a long list of messiahs who came to save the Jewish nation. From Judah the Galilean and Theudas through Bar Cochba, and Asher Lammlein, time and again messianic figures have both nourished and shattered the messianic hope of Israel.

  • Evangelism vs. Religious Harassment

    Theology

A while back, an American fellow believer criticized his Israeli brethren for not being daring evangelists. The reason for his criticism, I understand, was the absence of a particular kind of high-profile evangelism of an aggressive, inconsiderate, and intrusive type which seems to be the norm, while the quiet, humble, and meek approach is understood to lack commitment to the Great Commission.

  • Even After Auschwitz - Immanuel (Israel as Jesus)

    Theology

The Nazi soldiers who tortured my father in the Warsaw ghetto and in the death camps of Dachau and Auschwitz were proud of their uniform, especially of their shiny belt buckle with its engraved slogan, “God is with us.” In his horrifying rendezvous with death, my father was reduced, by so-called Christians, to a “muselman,” a living corpse, whose only wish was to die.

  • Her Ways are Ways of Peace

    Theology

In these days when the word peace is in everybody’s mouth, we have a unique opportunity to speak of the centrality of this concept in the Scriptures. So important is peace is that Solomon could unambiguously say,
“Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace (Prov. 3:17).

  • How Are We Doing, Really?

    Theology

Why do Jewish people who believe in the Messiah need a movement of their own? Wouldn’t it be better if they all quietly merged into one of the myriads of well-established churches in the countries where they live? Don’t they believe in the same things, after all?

  • Israel's relationship with the Arabs - A New and Old Problem

    Theology

No matter where one may come from, almost certainly, that person will have an opinion about Israel's bloody struggle with the Palestinians. This is strange. Chechnya, for example, should resemble what is happening in Israel. It is a Muslim nation that uses terror and everything else to gain independence. Yet, few will have a strong opinion—much less any opinion at all—about the legitimacy of the Russian war there and even fewer will have any sympathy toward the Chechnian Muslims.

  • Keruv As A Guiding Principle for Proclamation of the Good News

    Theology

Strategies and methods will always be the outcome of specific worldviews. Let me illustrate what I mean by this. Before the destruction of Gush Katif, leading rabbis proclaimed “it shall never happen”.This false prophecy was based upon a worldview which assumes a God who operates according to predictable patterns...

Purim: Its Significance for Jews and Christians
Among the followers of Jesus, the festival of Purim does not raise much interest as other Jewish holidays like Passover and Pentecost do. Maybe it is because there is no mention or allusion to Purim in the New Testament or,  maybe it is the alleged vengefulness of the Jews that was considered to be an improper, a “non-Christian" behavior. Whatever the reason may be, until the 7th century, not  a single commentary on the book of Esther was produced by Christians.

  • Something of Their Own

    Theology

Why do the Jewish people who believe in the Messiah need a movement of their own? Would it not be better if all of them quietly merged into one of the myriad of the well-established churches in the countries where they live?
Do they not, after all, believe in the same things? The answer to this complex question can be summarized in one sentence: Intuitively, Messianic Jews know that “Between Jesus and the Jews stands the Christian Church.”
